There was a surprise result when sixth ranked Titanes Licey (9-10) beat much higher ranked Leones SD (11-8) in San Cristobal 89-73 on Thursday. The game without a history. Titanes Licey led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Worth to mention a great performance of international swingman James Maye (201-81, college: NC-Greensboro) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 17 rebounds. American center Maurice Sutton (211-89, college: Villanova) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Puerto Rican point guard Alex Abreu (180-91, college: W.Georgia) answered with 14 points and American swingman J.R. Giddens (196-85, college: N.Mexico, agency: DTMones) added 13 points in the effort for Leones SD. Four Leones SD players scored in double figures. Leones SD's coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Titanes Licey moved-up to fifth place. Leones SD at the other side keeps the second position with eight games lost. Titanes Licey will face higher ranked Caneros LR (#4) in La Romana in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Leones SD's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Santo Domingo Soles SD.
