Regular Season Round 7: Cangrejeras - Gigantes 67-70

Seventh-ranked Cangrejeras (1-4) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked Gigantes (6-2) in Santurce on Friday. The visitors from Carolina managed to secure only three-point victory 70-67. However their fans expected much easier game. Cangrejeras were tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. They outrebounded Cangrejeras 41-29 including 26 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Markel Walker (185-90, college: UCLA, agency: Regeneracom Sports) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 19 rebounds. The former international point guard Jennifer O'Neill (168-90, college: Kentucky) contributed with 25 points and 6 assists for the winners. American forward Kayla Thornton (185-92, college: UTEP) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds and the former international point guard Dayshalee Salaman (163-90, college: Lincoln Memorial) added 18 points and 4 assists in the effort for Cangrejeras. Four Cangrejeras players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Defending champion maintains first place with 6-2 record. Cangrejeras at the other side keep the seventh position with four games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
