Second Stage Round 2: Soles SD - Leones SD 74-87

Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Santo Domingo: Leones SD (#2) and Soles SD (#5). Soles SD was defeated at home 74-87 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Leones SD. Soles SD was better in second period 27-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Leones SD players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Guard Elpidio Fortuna (188-85) scored 18 points to lead the charge for the winners and naturalized American forward M.J. Rhett (208-92, college: Mississippi) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Juan Miguel Suero (196-93) responded with 22 points and 7 rebounds and Danilo Nunez scored 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Soles SD players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Leones SD will play against Titanes Licey (#4) in San Cristobal in the next round. Soles SD's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Santo Domingo to the arena Leones SD.
