Regular Season Round 10: Santeras - Lady Cardinals 78-53

Bottom-ranked Lady Cardinals is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their eighth consecutive match to third ranked Santeras (6-2) 78-53. The game was mostly controlled by Santeras. Lady Cardinals was better in second period 13-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Lady Cardinals to just 1 points in first quarter and to 14 points in first half. Santeras dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Lady Cardinals' 22. Santeras forced 23 Lady Cardinals turnovers and outrebounded them 50-34 including a 26-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Santeras players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Lady Cardinals' players. American Mariesa Greene (183-87, college: Barry) had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and international swingman Ali Gibson (180-93, college: Oregon St.) chipped in 12 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. Four Santeras players scored in double figures. Santeras' coach felt very confident using 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side American forward Maria Blazejewski (185-91, college: L.Superior) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and her fellow American import center Teanna Robinson (196-92, college: Mercer) scored 16 points and 7 rebounds. Santeras have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Lady Cardinals at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with eight games lost. Santeras will again play against bottom-ranked Lady Cardinals (#8) in Lajas in the next round where they are favorite. Lady Cardinals will have a break next round.
