Regular Season Round 11: Montaneras - Gigantes 88-86
Date: September 1, 2016
There was a change at the BSNF leadership position after last games. Round 11 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Gigantes (7-3). They were edged by third ranked Montaneras (6-3) 88-86 on Thursday night. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Gigantes. It was a great shooting night for Montaneras especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. It was a great evening for American forward Shae Kelley (185-91, college: Minnesota) who led her team to a victory scoring 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Her fellow American import center Sasha Goodlett (195-90, college: Georgia Tech) helped adding 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Five Montaneras players scored in double figures. American guard Alexis Hornbuckle (180-85, college: Tennessee) responded with 32 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international forward Yolanda Jones (184-84, college: La-Lafayette) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists. Gigantes' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Montaneras have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Despite that victory Montaneras went down to fourth position due to points difference. Defending champion Gigantes dropped to the second place with three games lost. They share the position with Indias. They were replaced at the leadership position by Santeras. Gigantes will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Montaneras will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Cangrejeras in Santurce.
