Regular Season Round 11: Lady Cardinals - Santeras 57-88

Third ranked Santeras blasted bottom-ranked Lady Cardinals (0-9) in Lajas 88-57. Lady Cardinals is still unable to win any game. It looked good early as Lady Cardinals took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Santeras had a 25-11 second period charge getting the lead and Lady Cardinals were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 57-88. Santeras forced 19 Lady Cardinals turnovers and outrebounded them 52-38 including a 21-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Santeras players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American Mariesa Greene (183-87, college: Barry) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds. International swingman Ali Gibson (180-93, college: Oregon St.) accounted for 18 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winning side. Four Santeras players scored in double figures. Santeras' coach felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Dominican Charlenny Frias (170-84) came up with 29 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and American forward Maria Blazejewski (185-91, college: L.Superior) added 10 points and 15 rebounds respectively for Lady Cardinals in the defeat. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Santeras. They keep a position of league leader. Lady Cardinals lost their ninth game in a row. Lady Cardinals at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with nine games lost. Santeras will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Lady Cardinals will play at home against Atenienses (#5) and hope to get finally their first victory.
