Regular Season Round 12: Cangrejeras - Leonas 71-68

The most exciting game of round 12 in the BSNF took place in Santurce. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 7th ranked Leonas (2-7) to sixth ranked Cangrejeras (3-7) 71-68 in the game for the sixth place. Leonas were trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 5-point lead after three quarters before a 24-16 charge of Cangrejeras, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Leonas' 26. They outrebounded Leonas 45-32 including 32 on the defensive glass. Cangrejeras looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Kayla Thornton (185-92, college: UTEP) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international point guard Michelle Gonzalez (167-89, college: FIU) chipped in 18 points and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Tierra Henderson (178-87, college: UCLA) who recorded a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 4 assists and her fellow American import point guard Charity Harris (163, college: Bluefield St.) added 19 points respectively. Leonas' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cangrejeras maintains sixth position with 3-7 record. Leonas lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with seven games lost. Cangrejeras are looking forward to face higher ranked Atenienses (#5) in Manati in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Leonas will play at home against Indias and are hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
