Regular Season Round 13: Atenienses - Cangrejeras 84-83

Important game to mention about took place in Manati. Fifth ranked Atenienses (6-3) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 6th ranked Cangrejeras (3-8) 84-83 in the fight for the fifth place. The hosts were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. Atenienses players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. International guard Damika Martinez (170-92, college: Iona) stepped up and scored 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and international center Sandra Garcia (190-90, college: Wake Forest) chipped in 24 points and 5 assists. Atenienses' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side American center Talia Caldwell (188-91, college: California) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists and the other American import forward Kayla Thornton (185-92, college: UTEP) scored 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Cangrejeras players scored in double figures. Atenienses maintains fifth place with 6-3 record. Cangrejeras at the other side keep the sixth position with eight games lost. Atenienses will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cangrejeras will play on the road against the league's leader Gigantes (#1) in Carolina and hope to get back on the winning track.
