Regular Season Round 13: Gigantes - Santeras 92-90

BSNF round 13 caused change at the leadership position. Third defeat of league's leader Santeras (7-3) against second ranked Gigantes (8-3) 92-90 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Santeras. It was a key game for the top position in the league. They outrebounded Santeras 49-35 including a 21-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Gigantes looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Santeras helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Yolanda Jones (184-84, college: La-Lafayette) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 32 points and 11 rebounds. American forward Markel Walker (185-90, college: UCLA) contributed with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. International swingman Ali Gibson (180-93, college: Oregon St.) answered with 25 points and 6 rebounds and American forward Deven Hunter (190-94, college: Oregon St.) added 17 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Santeras. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Montaneras and Indias. Newly promoted Santeras dropped to the fourth place with three games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Gigantes. Santeras will play next round against strong Indias trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Gigantes will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Cangrejeras in Santurce.
