Regular Season Round 15: Lady Cardinals - Gigantes 41-76

Leader Gigantes delivered the tenth victory on Saturday night. This time they crushed bottom-ranked Lady Cardinals (0-13) 76-41 in Lajas. The game was mostly controlled by Gigantes. Lady Cardinals managed to win third quarter 17-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Lady Cardinals to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Gigantes made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game, while Lady Cardinals only scored two points from the stripe. It was a great evening for American guard Alexis Hornbuckle (180-85, college: Tennessee) who led her team to a victory scoring 17 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). The former international point guard Kiara Quinones-Noa (165-93) helped adding 14 points. Gigantes' coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American forward Maria Blazejewski (185-91, college: L.Superior) with 24 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import center Teanna Robinson (196-92, college: Mercer) scored 4 points and 11 rebounds. Gigantes have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 10-3 record, which they share with Montaneras. Newly promoted Lady Cardinals still closes the standings with 13 games lost. Gigantes will meet Atenienses (#5) in the next round. Lady Cardinals will play against Indias in Mayaguez and hope to get finally their first victory.
