Regular Season Round 14: XV Piracicaba - Rio Claro 81-72

Date: September 11, 2016
Bottom-ranked XV Piracicaba managed to get a third victory, breaking the seven-game losing streak on Sunday night. This time they won against sixth-ranked Rio Claro 81-72. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Rio Claro. XV Piracicaba made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Rio Claro 32-17 including 23 on the defensive glass. Point guard Matheus Costa (179-80) notched 21 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and naturalized Lithuanian center Douglas Gorauskas (205-83) supported him with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Four XV Piracicaba players scored in double figures. Even 27 points, 5 assists and 4 steals by the former international guard Guilherme Pereira (190-91) did not help to save the game for Rio Claro. The former international point guard George Yeye Torres (188-91) added 19 points for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. XV Piracicaba (3-11) moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Bauru and Liga Sorocaba. Loser Rio Claro keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. XV Piracicaba will meet at home higher ranked Vivo/Franca (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Rio Claro will play against Paschoalotto/Bauru and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
