Regular Season Round 15: Santeras - Atenienses 67-54

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked Atenienses' (6-5) road loss to fourth ranked Santeras (8-4) 54-67 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 67-54. Santeras dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Atenienses' 26. They outrebounded Atenienses 44-32 including 29 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American forward Deven Hunter (190-94, college: Oregon St.) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds. Her fellow American import power forward Patricia Bright (193-91, college: Oregon St.) helped adding 16 points and 13 rebounds. The best for the losing side was international center Sandra Garcia (190-90, college: Wake Forest) with 14 points and 6 rebounds and American Bernice Mosby (186-84, college: Baylor) scored 10 points and 5 rebounds. Atenienses' coach tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Newly promoted Santeras maintains fourth place with 8-4 record. Loser Atenienses keep the fifth position with five games lost. Santeras will meet league's second-placed Montaneras in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Atenienses will play against the league's leader Gigantes and hope to secure a win.
