Regular Season Round 17: Indias - Leonas 73-72

Seventh-ranked Leonas (3-10) gave a tough game to third ranked Indias (11-4) in Mayaguez on Thursday. Indias managed to secure only one-point victory 73-72. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Americans were the main players on the court. Forward Amanda Thompson (178-87, college: Oklahoma) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 17 rebounds for the winners and Shalonda Winton (180-91, college: Cleveland St.) chipped in 21 points and 7 rebounds. Four Indias players scored in double figures. Guard Tierra Henderson (178-87, college: UCLA) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Charity Harris (163, college: Bluefield St.) scored 19 points. Leonas' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Indias maintains third place with 11-4 record behind leader Gigantes. Leonas at the other side keep the seventh position with ten games lost. Indias will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Leonas will play at home against Atenienses (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
