Regular Season Round 17: Cangrejeras - Gigantes 71-75

BSNF top team - Gigantes (12-3) added another victory to their record. This time they beat sixth ranked Cangrejeras (5-11) in Santurce 75-71. Cangrejeras were ahead by 2 points at the halftime before a 28-21 third quarter run of Gigantes. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Cangrejeras' 38. American forward Markel Walker (185-90, college: UCLA) nailed a double-double by scoring 21 points and 16 rebounds for the winning side and the former international forward Yolanda Jones (184-84, college: La-Lafayette) accounted for 16 points and 7 rebounds. American center Talia Caldwell (188-91, college: California) came up with 19 points and 8 rebounds and the former international point guard Dayshalee Salaman (163-90, college: Lincoln Memorial) added 21 points and 4 assists respectively for Cangrejeras in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Cangrejeras' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Gigantes have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 12-3 record. Cangrejeras at the other side keep the sixth position with 11 games lost. Gigantes will play against Santeras (#4) in Aguada in the next round. Cangrejeras will have a break next round.
