An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Carolina. First ranked Gigantes faced 4th ranked Santeras. Host Gigantes (13-3) defeated guests from Aguada (8-6) 83-72. Santeras were ahead by 1 point after three quarters before a 22-10 charge of Gigantes, which allowed them to win the game. They outrebounded Santeras 44-26 including a 21-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for the former international forward Yolanda Jones (184-84, college: La-Lafayette) who led her team to a victory with 22 points and 7 rebounds. American forward Markel Walker (185-90, college: UCLA) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four Gigantes players scored in double figures. Gigantes' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. International guard Tayra Melendez (180-93, college: Rhode Island) replied with 23 points and 6 rebounds and American forward Deven Hunter (190-94, college: Oregon St.) added 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Santeras. Gigantes have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 13-3 record. Newly promoted Santeras keep the fourth place with six games lost. Gigantes will play against Indias (#3) in Mayaguez in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Santeras will play at home against Leonas and hope to get back on the winning track.
