Regular Season Round 18: Leonas - Atenienses 63-65

The most exciting game of round 18 in the BSNF took place in Ponce. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 7th ranked Leonas (3-11) to fifth ranked Atenienses (7-6) 65-63 on Friday evening. Leonas were trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 12-9 charge of Atenienses, which allowed them to win the game. Atenienses outrebounded Leonas 55-44 including a 39-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was international center Sandra Garcia (190-90, college: Wake Forest) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. American Ashley Shields (180-85, college: SW Tenn.St.CC) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. Atenienses' coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Porsha Harris (188-90, college: Bethel, TN, agency: Gamble Sports Management) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds and her fellow American import guard Tierra Henderson (178-87, college: UCLA) added 16 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Atenienses maintains fifth position with 7-6 record. Leonas at the other side keep the seventh place with 11 games lost. Atenienses are looking forward to face Cangrejeras (#6) in Santurce in the next round. Leonas will play at home against Indias and are hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
