Kazakhstan Astana Tigers (1-1) saved a 2-point victory at home edging Latvian Vega 1 (0-2) 74-72 on Saturday evening. Vega 1 was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Astana Tigers dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Vega 1's 30. Forward Tamara Yagodkina (181-90) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Center Anna Vinokurova (192-92) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Four Astana Tigers players scored in double figures. Guard Kristine Silaraja (172-87, college: Robert Morris) replied with 21 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and guard Ilze Jakobsone (168-94) added 20 points and 5 assists in the effort for Vega 1. Astana Tigers will face Dynamo Moscow on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Vega 1 will play against Gorizont (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
