Regular Season Round 21: Cangrejeras - Lady Cardinals 100-63

Bottom-ranked Lady Cardinals (0-16) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their 16th consecutive match to sixth ranked Cangrejeras (6-11) 100-63 on Saturday evening. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 24-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 100-63. Cangrejeras dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Lady Cardinals' 28. Cangrejeras forced 25 Lady Cardinals turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American forward Kayla Thornton (185-92, college: UTEP) stepped up and scored 35 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds for the winners and the former international point guard Dayshalee Salaman (163-90, college: Lincoln Memorial) chipped in 11 points and 11 assists. Five Cangrejeras players scored in double figures. Cangrejeras' coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American forward Maria Blazejewski (185-91, college: L.Superior) with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds and the other American import guard Amanda Andrades (160-93, college: Fair Dickinson) scored 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Cangrejeras maintains sixth place with 6-11 record. Newly promoted Lady Cardinals still closes the standings. Cangrejeras will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Lady Cardinals will play at home against the league's leader Gigantes (#1) and hope to get finally their first victory.
