Regular Season Round 21: Montaneras - Atenienses 74-64

Date: September 24, 2016
Rather expected game in Morovis where 5th ranked Atenienses (8-7) were defeated by second ranked Montaneras (13-3) 74-64 on Saturday. Atenienses were trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 15-4 charge of Montaneras, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Atenienses to just 4 points in fourth quarter. Montaneras forced 19 Atenienses turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The former international point guard Pamela Rosado (165-86) stepped up and scored 21 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners and American center Sasha Goodlett (195-90, college: Georgia Tech) chipped in 16 points and 13 rebounds. Four Montaneras players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American Ashley Shields (180-85, college: SW Tenn.St.CC) with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds and the former international point guard Zuleimarie Sanchez (168-87) scored 11 points and 5 rebounds. Atenienses' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Montaneras have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain second place with 13-3 record behind leader Gigantes. Atenienses at the other side keep the fifth position with seven games lost. Montaneras are looking forward to face Santeras (#4) in Aguada in the next round. Atenienses will play on the road against Leonas in Ponce and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
