Regular Season Round 22: Lady Cardinals - Gigantes 54-65

Leader Gigantes delivered the fifteenth victory. This time they beat bottom-ranked Lady Cardinals (0-17) 65-54 in Lajas. The game was mostly controlled by Gigantes. Lady Cardinals was better in fourth quarter 19-6. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gigantes forced 22 Lady Cardinals turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard Yahimily Cabrera (173-82) who helped to win the game recording 3 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists. The former international forward Yolanda Jones (184-84, college: La-Lafayette) contributed with 20 points for the winners. Gigantes' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward Maria Blazejewski (185-91, college: L.Superior) replied with 18 points and 9 rebounds and her fellow American import center Teanna Robinson (196-92, college: Mercer) added 11 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Lady Cardinals. Gigantes (15-3) have an impressive eight-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position. Newly promoted Lady Cardinals still closes the standings. Gigantes will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Lady Cardinals will play on the road against Leonas (#7) in Ponce and hope to get finally their first victory.
