Regular Season Round 25: Leonas - Lady Cardinals 85-70

Bottom-ranked Lady Cardinals (0-20) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 85-70 loss to seventh ranked Leonas (5-15) in Ponce on Friday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Leonas. Lady Cardinals managed to win fourth quarter 25-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Lady Cardinals 44-30 including 17 on the offensive glass. Leonas looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American guard Tierra Henderson (178-87, college: UCLA) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and Elissa Ventura chipped in 19 points. Four Leonas players scored in double figures. Leonas' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American forward Maria Blazejewski (185-91, college: L.Superior) responded with 27 points and 7 rebounds (made all of her seven free throws) and the other American import guard Amanda Andrades (160-93, college: Fair Dickinson) scored 22 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Leonas maintains seventh place with 5-15 record. Newly promoted Lady Cardinals still closes the standings.
