There was a surprise result when Schalke (1-2) beat at home SC Rist Wedel (1-2) 91-78 on Sunday. Schalke shot 36 for 52 from the free-throw line, while SC Rist Wedel only scored nine points from the stripe. SC Rist Wedel was plagued by 34 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American guard Courtney Belger (188-89, college: Quincy) who led his team to a victory with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. His fellow American import power forward Trent Weaver (203-94, college: Ohio Dominican) contributed with 10 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Schalke players scored in double figures. American guard Will Barnes (185-88, college: Lee) answered with 28 points and Fabian Strauss (193-93) added 10 points in the effort for SC Rist Wedel. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Schalke will face Herzoege Wolfenbuettel (#10) on the road in the next round.
