Date: October 12, 2016
Sampaense was not able to use a home court advantage and was outscored by the opponent from Funchal 111-79. The game without a history. CAB Madeira led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. CAB Madeira outrebounded Sampaense 39-22 including 28 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. It was a very good performance for the former international swingman Fabio Lima (198-88) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 9 rebounds. American forward Frederick Gentry (201-77, college: McNeese St.) contributed with 20 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Five CAB Madeira players scored in double figures. Serbian swingman Nikola Pavlovic (195-93, agency: Dynamics Global Management) answered with 29 points and Serbian center Dusan Ognjenovic (216-91, agency: Dynamics Global Management) added 19 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) in the effort for Sampaense. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. CAB Madeira will play against Oliveirense (#6) in Oliveira in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Sampaense will play on the road against Galitos-Barreiro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
