Regular Season Round 5: Trefl II Sopot - AZS UMK Torun 69-87

Very expected game when 8th ranked Trefl II Sopot (1-3) lost at home to fourth ranked AZS UMK Torun (4-1) 87-69 on Saturday. The game without a history. AZS UMK Torun led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Trefl II Sopot's 30. They outrebounded Trefl II Sopot 54-30 including a 37-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. AZS UMK Torun looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Trefl II Sopot was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Radoslaw Plebanek (190-85) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Zbigniew Malinowski (188-84) contributed with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Four AZS UMK Torun players scored in double figures. Guard Damian Ciesielski (187-97) answered with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and forward Patryk Jankowski (197-98) added 10 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Trefl II Sopot. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. AZS UMK Torun have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place in Group A, which they share with Asseco II and AZS PGd. Loser Trefl II Sopot dropped to the ninth position with three games lost. AZS UMK Torun will face league's leader Pelplin in Pelpin in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Trefl II Sopot will play on the road against AZS PGd (#3) in Gdansk and hope to win that game.
