Regular Season Round 7: Mainz - Schwenningen 80-90

No shocking result in a game when leader BV Villingen-Schwenningen (7-0) defeated on the road 13th ranked Mainz (1-6) 90-80 on Saturday. BV Villingen-Schwenningen dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Mainz's 34. Slovenia guard Jaka Zagorc (192-90) fired 27 points and 4 assists (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. Italian-Slovenia center Davor Barovic (211-90) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Four BV Villingen-Schwenningen players scored in double figures. Swingman Philipp Schoen (196-87) produced 18 points and 9 rebounds and India-American point guard Anish Sharda (188-82, college: St.Mary's, KS) added 25 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for BV Villingen-Schwenningen. They maintain first place in South-West with 7-0 record. Mainz lost their third game in a row. They keep the thirteenth position with six games lost. BV Villingen-Schwenningen will face Fellbach (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Mainz will play against Stuttgart (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
