Regular Season Round 8: Correcaminos - Toros 54-39

There was no surprise when 5th ranked Toros (2-7) were defeated on the road by third ranked Correcaminos (5-3) 54-39 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Correcaminos. Toros managed to win third quarter 14-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Toros to just 2 points in second quarter. Correcaminos dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Toros' 26. Correcaminos forced 21 Toros turnovers and outrebounded them 55-32 including a 25-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Salvadorean center Vanessa Heredia (185-82) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds and Keisha Chambers who added 13 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Correcaminos' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Nayelis Gutierres responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds and forward Fatima Guerra (165-0) scored 8 points and 11 rebounds. Correcaminos maintains third position with 5-3 record having just three points less than leader Panteras. Toros lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the fifth place with seven games lost. Correcaminos will meet at home league's second-placed Halcones in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Toros will have a break next round.
