Regular Season Round 4: Barons Riga - Rapla 80-86

Date: November 2, 2016
The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Latvian Barons Riga (2-1) at the home court on Wednesday night. Hosts were defeated by Estonia Rapla (3-1) 86-80. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Barons Riga. It was a key game for the top position in the league. 28 personal fouls committed by Barons Riga helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of Dutch center Thomas van der Mars (208-90, college: Portland) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds and forward Indrek Kajupank (200-88) who added 14 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Lithuania forward Denis Krestinin (202-94, agency: BeoBasket) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds and guard Kristaps Mediss (188-89) scored 14 points. Five Rapla and four Barons Riga players scored in double figures. Barons Riga's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Rapla keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Jekabpils and BK Ogre. Barons Riga at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They share the position with Valmiera. Rapla will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Barons Riga will play on the road against Jurmala and is hoping to win this game.
