Regular Season Round 9: Lorient - Caen 73-74

A very interesting game took place in Lorient. It ended with only one-point home defeat of 13th ranked Lorient (3-6) to sixth ranked Caen (6-3) 74-73 on Friday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Lorient won third quarter 23-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for American-Cape Verdean swingman B.J. Monteiro (196-90, college: Duquesne) who saved his team from a defeat with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Bryson Pope (198-90, college: Kent St.) contributed with 17 points for the winners. American forward Michael Craion (195-89, college: ORU) answered with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and center Raphael Giaimo (210-89, college: Seward County CC) added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Lorient. Caen moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Lorient lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth position with six games lost. Caen's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked CFBB (#18) in Paris which should be an easy win for them. Lorient will play on the road against UB Chartres (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
