There was a surprise result when sixteenth ranked Vendee Challans (3-6) defeated at home higher ranked Rueil (5-4) 97-84 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 11-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 97-84. Vendee Challans outrebounded Rueil 35-20 including a 25-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Swingman Dominique Gentil (197-88, agency: Octagon Europe) stepped up and scored 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and naturalized Mali point guard Ibrahim Saounera (179-87) chipped in 19 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). The best for the losing side was point guard Jeremy Bichard (186-90) with 16 points and 5 assists and forward Karim Gourari (204-89) scored 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Vendee Challans moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Lourdes and Lorient. Loser Rueil keeps the seventh position with four games lost. Vendee Challans will face higher ranked Vitre (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
