Regular Season Round 29: Canarios - El Rapido 95-75

Very expected game in Ahuachapan where 11th ranked El Rapido (13-14) was rolled over by third ranked Canarios (18-8) 95-75 on Saturday. Canarios dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to El Rapido's 48. Canarios forced 19 El Rapido turnovers and outrebounded them 50-39 including 20 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by El Rapido's players. The best player for the winners was Costa Rican-Dominican forward Amaurys Ripool (196-86) who had a double-double by scoring 30 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists. Jamaica forward Pete Brown (198-87, college: NC-Greensboro) chipped in a double-double by scoring 24 points, 17 rebounds and 6 assists. Brown is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Canarios players scored in double figures. Dominican center Joel Valerio produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 19 rebounds and Honduran guard Alvin Cacho (189-87) added 27 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Canarios. They maintain third place with 18-8 record having twelve points less than leader Santa Tecla. Loser El Rapido dropped to the tenth position with 14 games lost. Canarios will face league's leader Santa Tecla at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. El Rapido will play against 11 Lobos (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
