Regular Season Round 5: BSEU-GrandPrint - Brest 71-68

The most exciting game of round 5 in the Premier League took place in Minsk. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of bottom-ranked Brest (0-4) to sixth ranked BSEU-GrandPrint (2-2) 71-68 on Saturday evening. Brest was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 20-14 charge of BSEU-GrandPrint, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Brest's 36. BSEU-GrandPrint forced 23 Brest turnovers. Strangely Brest outrebounded BSEU-GrandPrint 45-29 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Power forward Vitaliy Lebedev (200-99) stepped up and scored 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and guard Valentin Nazarov (185-97) chipped in 15 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Forward Dmitriy Dmitruk (198-81) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 20 rebounds and 4 assists and swingman Pavel Moroz (193-88) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Five BSEU-GrandPrint and four Brest players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. BSEU-GrandPrint moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Impuls BGUIR. Newly promoted Brest still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Vitebsk. BSEU-GrandPrint will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Brest will play at home against Tsmoki II (#3) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
