Regular Season Round 30: Canarios - Santa Tecla 79-84

An interesting game for Santa Tecla (29-0) which played road game in Ahuachapan against 3rd ranked Canarios (18-9). Top-ranked Santa Tecla managed to get a 5-point victory 84-79. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Canarios. Santa Tecla dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Canarios' 36. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Cuba forward Lisvan Valdez (200-88) notched 42 points (!!!) to lead the effort and Cuba power forward Oreste Torres (204-87) supported him with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Even 25 points and 8 assists by American guard Samuel Colmenero (185, college: San Francisco St.) did not help to save the game for Canarios. Jamaica forward Pete Brown (198-87, college: NC-Greensboro) added 17 points and 14 rebounds. Four Canarios players scored in double figures. Santa Tecla have an impressive 19-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 29-0 record. Loser Canarios keep the third place with nine games lost. Santa Tecla will meet San Miguel (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Canarios will play against Arcense (#12) in San Salvador and hope to secure a win.
