Regular Season Round 5: Rustavi - Mgzavrebi 80-76

Bottom-ranked Mgzavrebi (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 80-76 loss to third ranked Energy Invest (4-1) in Rustavi on Friday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Mgzavrebi won third quarter 26-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Energy Invest won last quarter 23-20. Strangely Mgzavrebi outrebounded Energy Invest 45-32 including 16 on the offensive glass. American point guard Charlie Lee (175-92, college: Cleveland St.) stepped up and scored 34 points (!!!) for the winners and his fellow American import forward Thomas Spagnolo (201-91, college: Appalachian St.) chipped in 11 points and 14 rebounds. American center Reggie Murphy (208-91, college: Henderson St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Beqa Tsivtsivadze (190-89) scored 12 points and 4 assists. Four Mgzavrebi players scored in double figures. Energy Invest moved-up to second place, which they share with Kutaisi. Mgzavrebi lost their fourth game in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. Energy Invest will meet league's leader Dinamo Tbilisi on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mgzavrebi will play against the league's second-placed Kutaisi (#2) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
