Regular Season Round 9: Barreteros - Correcaminos 109-95

There was no surprise in Zacatecas where 10th ranked Correcaminos (2-8) were defeated by eighth ranked Barreteros (4-5) 109-95 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Barreteros. Correcaminos managed to win fourth quarter 38-32. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Barreteros made 28-of-37 free shots (75.7 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American point guard Carl Jones (180-91, college: St.Joseph's) stepped up and scored 33 points (!!!) and 6 assists for the winners and his fellow American import guard Paul Marigney (192-82, college: St.Mary's, CA) chipped in 16 points. The best for the losing side was American Theron Laudermill (202-89, college: CS San Bernar.) with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds and Julio Martin del Campo scored 25 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Barreteros. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Garzas and Soles. Correcaminos lost their fourth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Barreteros will meet Soles (#6) in the next round. Correcaminos will play against Garzas (#5) and hope to secure a win.
