Date: November 19, 2016
Rather predictable result when eighth ranked Naron (4-3) beat on the road 12th ranked Gijon (2-5) 74-59 on Saturday. The game without a history. Naron led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Gijon to just 6 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Gijon 46-34 including 31 on the defensive glass. Gijon was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American forward Tim Gill (203-93, college: Clarion) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 21 rebounds. Guard Samuel Barros (190-98) chipped in 19 points and 4 assists. Gill is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Naron's coach used an eleven-player rotation saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Diego Sanchez (198-78) who recorded 11 points and 5 rebounds and forward Dani Gonzalez (202-84) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Naron have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place in Group A-B, which they share with Ponferrada CDP. Loser Gijon keeps the twelfth position with five games lost. Naron will face higher ranked Estudiantes L. (#4) in Lugo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gijon will play on the road against Betanzos (#3) and hope to win that game.
