Regular Season Round 9: Shanghai S. - Shanxi BD 108-89

Date: November 20, 2016
Very expected game when 13th ranked Shanxi Zhongyu (4-5) was crushed on the road by second ranked Shanghai Sharks (8-1) 108-89. It looked good early as Shanxi Zhongyu took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Shanghai Sharks had a 26-18 second period charge getting the lead and Shanxi Zhongyu was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 89-108. Shanghai Sharks forced 23 Shanxi Zhongyu turnovers. It was a good game for American point guard Jimmer Fredette (188-89, college: BYU) who led his team to a victory with 38 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 8 assists. The former international center ZhaoXu Zhang (221-87, college: California) contributed with 15 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) for the winners. Five Shanghai Sharks players scored in double figures. American Jamaal Franklin (196-91, college: San Diego St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists and guard LingXu Zeng (193-87) added 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Shanxi Zhongyu. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Shanghai Sharks keep a position of league leader, which they share with Guangsha L. Shanxi Zhongyu at the other side keeps the thirteenth place with five games lost. Shanghai Sharks' next round opponent will be Fujian (#16) in Jinjiang which should be an easy win for them. Shanxi Zhongyu will play on the road against the league's leader Zhejiang Guangsha Lions in Hangzhou and hope to win that game.
