Regular Season Round 9: Leeuwarden - Groningen 61-78

Eredivisie top team - Groningen (8-1) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they beat fifth ranked Leeuwarden (3-6) 78-61. The game was mostly controlled by Groningen. Leeuwarden managed to win second period 20-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Groningen dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Leeuwarden's 28. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Leeuwarden's players. American forward Chase Fieler (203-92, college: FGCU) nailed 20 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and his fellow American import point guard Lance Jeter (191-88, college: Nebraska) accounted for 9 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists. American guard Jordan Gregory (188-92, college: Montana) came up with 16 points and the former international power forward Craig Osaikhwuwuomwan (211-90) added 7 points and 13 rebounds respectively for Leeuwarden in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Groningen have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 8-1 record. Loser Leeuwarden keeps the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Dukes UDB and Rotterdam. Groningen will meet at home bottom-ranked Weert (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Leeuwarden will play against Leiden and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
