Regular Season Round 8: Alghero - Orvieto 62-84

Very expected game when bottom-ranked Alghero (0-7) was smashed at home by fifth ranked Orvieto (5-2) 84-62 on Saturday. The game without a history. Orvieto led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Alghero's 32. Orvieto forced 19 Alghero turnovers. Power forward Giorgia Manfrc (183-92) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points and 5 rebounds. Lithuanian power forward Gintare Mazionyte (188-91, college: Texas) contributed with 19 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Four Orvieto players scored in double figures. Center Alexandra Petrova (185-97) replied with 16 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Sara Azzellini (170-86) added 11 points and 4 assists in the effort for Alghero. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Orvieto have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Newly promoted Alghero still closes the standings with seven games lost. Orvieto will face Virtus Cagliari (#10) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Alghero will play against Scrivia (#7) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
