Regular Season Round 14: Caen - Challans 79-77
Date: December 1, 2016
Very predictable result when fifth ranked Caen (9-5) edged at home 17th ranked Vendee Challans (4-10) 79-77 on Thursday. However just two-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Caen made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was Bryson Pope (198-90, college: Kent St.) who scored 15 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. American-Cape Verdean swingman B.J. Monteiro (196-90, college: Duquesne) chipped in 21 points and 6 rebounds. Naturalized Mali point guard Ibrahim Saounera (179-87) produced 17 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Jordan Barham (193-94, college: Davidson) added 15 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Caen moved-up to third place, which they share with RAC Basket and St Vallier. Vendee Challans lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixteenth position with ten games lost. Caen will face Rueil (#4) on the road in the next round. Vendee Challans will play against UB Chartres (#9) and hope to win that game.
