Regular Season Round 4: Astana Tigers - Basket Gdynia 63-85

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 7th ranked Kazakhstan Astana Tigers' (1-3) home loss to sixth ranked Polish Basket Gdynia (3-1) 63-85 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Basket Gdynia. Astana Tigers was better in fourth quarter 21-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Basket Gdynia shot 63.6 percent from the field. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American center Carolyn Swords (198-89, college: Boston Coll., agency: LBM Management) fired 22 points (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!) for the winners. Guard Kamila Podgorna (174-96) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 assists. Four Basket Gdynia players scored in double figures. Basket Gdynia's coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Center Anna Vinokurova (192-92) produced 20 points and 5 rebounds and Ukrainian guard Olga Dubrovina (170-87) added 6 points and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Basket Gdynia moved-up to fourth place. Astana Tigers at the other side dropped to the eighth position with three games lost. Basket Gdynia will face league's leader Dynamo Moscow at home in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Astana Tigers will play against Gorizont (#5) and hope to win that game.
