Regular Season Round 3: Hong Kong ELL - Singapore S. 97-95

The biggest surprise of round 3 in ASEAN League took place in where host Hong Kong Hong Kong ELL (4-0) edged Singapore Singapore Slingers (3-1) 97-95 on Wednesday evening. Hong Kong ELL made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 28 Singapore Slingers turnovers. Strangely Singapore Slingers outrebounded Hong Kong ELL 60-31 including a 39-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American guard Marcus Elliott (191-84, college: Louisiana Tech) who scored 27 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. His fellow American import power forward Patrick Sullivan (206-88, college: SE Louisiana, agency: HMS) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Four Hong Kong ELL players scored in double figures. Hong Kong ELL's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Justin Howard (208-81, college: Mercer) who recorded a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!), 27 rebounds and 4 blocks (went 12 for 12 at the free throw line !!!) and Singapore guard Wei Long Wong (187-88) added 24 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!) respectively. Singapore Slingers will play next round against strong Alab Pilipinas trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Hong Kong ELL will try to continue on its current victory against Singapore Slingers at home.
