Regular Season Round 15: Gries/Oberhoffen - Rennes 85-76

There was an upset when higher ranked Union Rennes (7-8) lost to sixteenth ranked Gries/Oberhoffen (5-10) in Bischwiller 76-85 on Saturday. Union Rennes trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 22-18 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 76-85 at the end of the game. Gries/Oberhoffen made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Gries/Oberhoffen outrebounded Union Rennes 35-24 including 24 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for Ahmed Doumbia (195-89) who led his team to a victory with 20 points. American forward Gregg Thondique (201-87, college: Virginia Union, agency: Octagon Europe) contributed with 10 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Four Gries/Oberhoffen players scored in double figures. Serbian swingman Vukan Zivkovic (199-91) answered with 19 points and American swingman Daviin Davis (193-85, college: Weber St.) added 13 points and 4 assists in the effort for Union Rennes. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gries/Oberhoffen moved-up to fifteenth place, which they share with Challans and SAP Vaucluse. Union Rennes at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eleventh position with eight games lost. Gries/Oberhoffen will face higher ranked Orchesien BC (#10) in Orchies in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
