Sixth ranked Townsville Fire (7-7) crushed at home 7th ranked Boomers (3-10) by 27 points 93-66, which is the biggest margin this round on Saturday night. The game without a history. Townsville Fire led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 36-of-41 free shots (87.8 percent) during the game, while Boomers only scored nine points from the stripe. Townsville Fire forced 19 Boomers turnovers. Boomers were plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international center Suzy Batkovic-Brown (195-80) had a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American forward Kayla Standish (187-89, college: Gonzaga) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side forward Tegan Cunningham (185-88, college: Oklahoma St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and international swingman Alice Kunek (187-91) scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains sixth position with 7-7 record. Boomers lost ninth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with ten games lost. Townsville Fire will face bottom-ranked Adelaide Lightning (#8) on the road in the next round. Boomers will play against Canberra Capitals and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
