Regular Season Round 11: Carugate - Alghero 67-47

Rather expected game when bottom-ranked Alghero (0-11) was smashed by eleventh ranked Carugate (3-8) in Corugate 67-47 on Wednesday. The game without a history. Carugate led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Alghero's 28. Carugate forced 19 Alghero turnovers and outrebounded them 41-23 including a 28-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international forward Emily Correal (190-90, college: William & Mary, agency: Interperformances) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 17 rebounds. Power forward Marta Scarsi (182-95) contributed with 11 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Carugate's coach Paolo Re used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Point guard Sara Azzellini (170-86) answered with 16 points and 6 rebounds and forward Diarra Sow (180-99) added 9 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Alghero. Carugate maintains eleventh place with 3-8 record. Alghero lost their eleventh game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Carugate will face higher ranked Orvieto (#5) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Alghero will play against Team Crema (#7) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
