Regular Season Round 12: Olimpi - Sokhumi 60-95

Date: December 19, 2016
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Tbilisi: Sokhumi (#6) and Olimpi (#7). Olimpi was smashed at home by 35 points 60-95 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The game without a history. Sokhumi led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Olimpi's 26. Sokhumi forced 19 Olimpi turnovers and outrebounded them 53-31 including a 42-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Sokhumi brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Dwayne Lathan (190-89, college: Indiana St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists and Otari Buliava (202-94) who added 30 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Four Sokhumi players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Revaz Rogava (191-93) with 16 points and American guard Tre Burnette (196, college: S.Dakota) scored 8 points and 12 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sokhumi maintains sixth position with 4-7 record. Olimpi at the other side keeps the seventh place with nine games lost. Sokhumi will play against higher ranked Batumi (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Olimpi will have a break next round.
