Regular Season Round 10: Al Wakrah - Al Rayyan 78-96

The game in Al Wakrah was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Al Rayyan (4-1) played at the court of 6th ranked Al Wakrah (1-4). Al Rayyan did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 96-78. It looked good early as Al Wakrah took a 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Al Rayyan had a 24-7 second period charge getting the lead and Al Wakrah was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 78-96. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Al Wakrah to just 7 points in second quarter. Al Rayyan dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Al Wakrah's 32. It was a good game for the former international forward Tanguy Ngombo (197-84) who led his team to a victory with 26 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. American center Marcus Bell (206-90, college: CS Stanislaus) contributed with 8 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Four Al Rayyan players scored in double figures. American-Nigerian forward Olatunbo Ayeni (196-87, college: St.Francis, NY) replied with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 18 rebounds and American guard Larry Williams (191-86, college: Ark.-Pine Bluff) added 24 points and 5 assists in the effort for Al Wakrah. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Al Gharafa. Al Wakrah lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. Al Rayyan's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Shamal.
