Regular Season Round 15: Crvena Zvezda - CSKA 78-67

The biggest surprise took place in Beograd where host Serbian Crvena Zvezda (7-8) beat league's leader Russian CSKA (12-3) 78-67 on Thursday evening. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Crvena Zvezda. CSKA managed to win third quarter 22-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by CSKA helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Bosnian-Serbian center Ognjen Kuzmic (213-90) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). American-Serbian Charles Jenkins (191-89, college: Hofstra) chipped in 11 points, 6 assists and 6 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Andrey Vorontsevich (207-87) who recorded 21 points and American guard Aaron Jackson (190-86, college: Duquesne) added 10 points and 8 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending Serbian champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Anadolu Efes and FC Barcelona. Defending Russian champion CSKA dropped to the second place with three games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by FC Barcelona. CSKA will play next round against strong Real Madrid trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Crvena Zvezda will try to continue on its current victory against eleventh ranked Zalgiris in Kaunas.
