Regular Season Round 15: Al Rayyan - Al Gharafa 75-88

Round 8 most important game was a victory of Al Gharafa over one of their biggest challengers Al Rayyan 88-75 on Sunday night. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Al Rayyan. The game was mostly controlled by Al Gharafa. Al Rayyan managed to win third quarter 22-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry) orchestrated the victory by scoring 28 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. International swingman Abdulrahman Saad (185-96) contributed with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Monroe is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Al Gharafa players scored in double figures. American center Marcus Bell (206-90, college: CS Stanislaus) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Marcel Anderson (183-86, college: Harris-Stowe St.) added 25 points in the effort for Al Rayyan. Al Gharafa have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 6-1 record behind leader El Jaysh. Defending champion Al Rayyan keeps the third place with two games lost. Al Gharafa will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Al Rayyan's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena El Jaysh.
