Regular Season Round 13: Rapla - Barons Riga 66-77

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Estonian Rapla (8-3) at the home court on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by Latvian Barons Riga (9-2) 77-66. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Rapla. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game without a history. Barons Riga led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Strangely Rapla outrebounded Barons Riga 56-39 including a 25-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Lithuanian forward Denis Krestinin (202-94, agency: BeoBasket) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and Davis Geks (192-95) chipped in 19 points and 5 assists. Four Barons Riga players scored in double figures. At the losing side Dutch center Thomas van der Mars (208-90, college: Portland) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds and Slovenian point guard Domen Bratoz (189-93) scored 12 points and 7 rebounds. Barons Riga have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Rapla at the other side dropped to the second place with three games lost. Barons Riga will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Rapla will play at home against Barsy Atyrau and is hoping to win this game.
