Regular Season Round 14: Rapla - Barsy Atyrau 84-86 OT

Kazakhstan Barsy Atyrau (2-8) survived in overtime against Estonian Rapla (8-4) by two points 86-84 on Thursday night. The game took place in Rapla. But the guests from Atyrau were better at the end. The guests trailed by 12 points at the halftime before their 24-11 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 13-11. Rapla was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American guard Ryan Cook (191-90, college: UMBC, agency: HMS) who scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. The other American import point guard Trevin Parks (180-91, college: Johnson C. Smith) chipped in 18 points and 5 steals. Cook is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Barsy Atyrau's coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Dutch center Thomas van der Mars (208-90, college: Portland) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and Slovenian point guard Domen Bratoz (189-93) added 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending Kazakhstan champion maintains seventh position with 2-8 record. Rapla at the other side keeps the third place with four games lost. Barsy Atyrau will face league's leader Barons Riga on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
